Ravi Shastri has been appointed as new coach of Indian Cricket Team
An e-mail from the BCCI before the 11 PM on Tuesday confirms these appointments.
Last month, Shastri threw his name into contention for the vacant coach’s role after the BCCI, in the aftermath of Kumble’s resignation, decided to invite more applicants despite criticism by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators.
Zaheer, who last played international cricket in 2014, is considered to be one of finest exponents of swing bowling India has ever produced.
The news came a day after the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) announced that it would seek Indian captain Virat Kohli’s inputs before announcing the man to replace Anil Kumble in the most high-profile coaching role in the sport.
The news of Shastri’s appointment as head coach will not surprise many, given his work as team director for an 18-month period and the relationship he shares with Kohli and other members of the team
Recently the Indian Cricket Team was on the India-West Indies Tour where it had a 5 ODI and One T-20 match. The first one-day match was drawn because of the heavy rain, whereas in the remaining four matches, India won the series by 3-1 and in the T-20 lost the match by 9 wickets.
